Best Time Saver Ever - Jott
… and I was wrong, once again
Maybe I just like this stuff because I hate being in the car when I think of something but I found this site - Jott.com. Actually, I read about it on Lifehacker the day I wrote about using Vonage for Voice Transcription and someone left a comment about it also. So I guess it was really bad timing to show off my relatively expensive time saver of an idea. If you’re wondering, I was wrong about Google’s intentions about a tool they put out recently.
What is Jott?
You just call it up and it recognizes your phone number. From there, if you want to send a message to yourself, you say “Me” and record your message. Once you’re done, it will e-mail you a copy of the message
Negatives of Jott
The only negative is that it’s just 30 seconds long. Ideally, I would like to record some long copy but I wont be able to do that. The good news is that it doesn’t cost anything and you can record as many as you want so just record multiple messages while you’re still on the phone.
How Do They Make Money?
I’m always interested in different business models so this one interests me. I would have guessed that for a service like this, they would at least charge some token amount. Since it’s in Beta, maybe they will start charging later.
The other options that they have for business models is advertisements when you call or when you get e-mails or through a premium service. I would have trouble believing that either one is very fruitful. I’m sure they’ll have a big subscriber base but when advertisements are measured in dollars per thousand impressions, will that be enough to justify the costs to build and maintain a business such as this?
Laziness Tool of the Year
I don’t have any award for Laziness Tool of the year but if I did, this one is the front-runner for now. I just hate writing and trying to capture ideas I have when I’m not in front of the computer. This tool should only increase my productivity when I have to force myself to sit down and do work. And maybe I will come up with a Laziness Tool of the Year Award.
