Do You Really Need a Salesforce?
Do you really need a sales force? This question is being asked more and more by business owners these days as the entire world becomes increasingly computerized and automated. It seems as though computer programs can do virtually anything people can do, and usually, computers can do things better, faster and more efficiently than even the most expert humans. As technology improves and computers gain competence in being interactive, there is more of an argument than ever for utilizing computers as sales tools. So, why use people as a sales force at all?
There are some arguments for using a sales person instead of a sales program. Mainly, people would rather talk to other people than they would a computer. This is simply conventional wisdom, however. In actuality, people will most of the time take something they see on a computer presentation equally as seriously as something a sales person tells them. Nevertheless, computers cannot replace human intuition (yet) and so it is good to maintain at least a small sales force that does not cost the company a huge amount of money.
For most of your sales, you want to use a tool such as Camtiasia. Camtasia is a user friendly application that allows even the most technologically inept to make videos on their computer screen and subsequently distribute them to anyone, anywhere. It advertises itself as being easy to use, even if you have never made any kind of video before. It also creates slick, professional presentations that can only add credibility to your company pitch.
Camtasia and tools like it are superior to an actual sales person for several reasons. Most importantly, these tools allow you to control what your potential clients are seeing when introduced to your product, every time. There is no guess work about whether or not a certain sales person is following a good or bad tactic, there is simply the Camtasia tactic that you have approved. Media presentations eliminate the possibility of human error by never having bad days and never making mistakes. Utilizing a media presentation tool means that your leads will all have the same initial experience, allowing you to gauge how effective your pitch really is. In a process (sales) that has a multitude of variables, a well put together presentation can be a stable factor from which to work when structuring the company’s standard approach to potential new customers.
Overall, it is probably better to create a presentation via Camtasia than it is to retain a force of people to handle sales. Apart from all the advantages you gain in uniform presentations to customers, you remove the headaches that inevitably come with managing a team of people. Camtasia will not ask you for raises, call in sick, show up late or forget anything important that it needs to remember that day. As much as people claim to love the “human touch” in business, it is a cold, stark fact that computers perform better on a more consistent basis. The tools available to us now render a sales force something to be used in moderation.
