Google Pushing Out Adwords Managers?
New Campaign Optimizer Not Available for Adwords Professionals
I had mixed feelings when I saw on the Adwords blog that they had released a new tool for clients to optimize their Adwords campaigns. As a certified Adwords Professional, I add value to my clients' campaigns by optimizing them. If Google offers the service, it's a lot tougher to add value.
But as a Lazy Business Owner, I like the idea of anything that is automated for me. If this makes my life easier in getting better results for my clients, that's not all that bad.
Google Won't Let Me Optimize My Clients Campaigns
When I logged in as the client manager to my clients' campaigns to check out the new tool, I noticed something was missing - the Campaign Optimizer.
Strange, so I checked out a few more accounts and still didn't find anything. I then searched Technorati and Google News to see if I could find any blogs with comments about the missing feature that was announced. Nothing.
Google Will Let My Clients Optimize their own Campaign
I knew that Google only lets clients optimize their websites, which didn't make much sense to me but I thought they might have done the same thing.
Since I set up my clients accounts', I have the login/password and went into the accounts that way. This is what I saw:
So my clients can optimize their accounts but Google won't let me do it. Hmm….
Adwords Managers Can't Access the Website Optimizer
Google already blocked Adwords Managers from accessing their clients' Website Optimizer directly. They even permit the clients to give access to other accounts but it does not work with the Manager account.
Google Wants to Push Out Bigger Firms
In all honesty, this does not affect me too much. If anything, I like to see when Google adds tools like these to make Adwords seem more user-friendly. That makes it more likely for small businesses to try it with limited success. And that allows us to differentiate the service that we offer. We also set up the account for all of our clients so that's not a problem either.
I think this would affect the firms managing very large accounts. Those firms are less likely to have access to the tool. Their clients are also the ones more likely to keep PPC management in house. By giving them one more tool to make it easier, Google pushes out the management firm. That means that the company will be more likely to use those PPC management fees on buying more advertising supply from Google.

I have seen a few ‘optimized’ campaigns. they suck..

The only suggestions they have given me so far were some keywords, which weren’t a bad idea. I think that’s going to be the extent of it unless you really don’t know some basic PPC rules (ie: capitalize first letters of each word). And some of the bad keyword suggestions made good negative keywords. But the real key is writing good ads.

Interesting information, I love reading anything Google Adwords related.
