I Failed with One of My Muses Today
For anyone who has followed this blog for the past few months, you know that I wanted to try a little experiment and see if I could create a muse according to the 4-Hour Workweek. I thought I had the following advantages that most people didn’t have:
- I have experience running a business
- I understand the online marketing that is critical to running the muse
Well, as of today, I admit failure as I have not made any sales in almost two months and am shutting down the muse. I would not have guessed this after the fast start I had selling my products.
Why am I Shutting my Muse Down?
- I had made a lot of usability changes and I thought the design was one of the best in the markets. With all these changes, if I still can’t make a lot of sales, I just don’t think there’s a great market out there
- I think this is an example of something being a little bit too niche. I realized that even if I got organic visitors to the site, there wouldn’t be a lot of them and they might not be well targeted.
- I’m not going to continue throwing good money after bad money. There were no big changes that I could make. Even if I made a few more enhancements, I wasn’t expecting to get much, if any profit a month.
It’s a bit sad because I think I put in more time than I intended from the beginning. In fact, I haven’t gotten my other muse up and running because I was focusing on this.
Will I do it Again?
I hate to say it, but yes. In fact, that’s part of the reason I’m shutting this one down. The other one is almost ready to go live and I think there is more of a potential market there.
