Lazy Owner Voted #2 for Blog Redesign
I found out something nice and unexpected today. Jon Waraas did a post for the Top 5 Blog Redesigns since there seemed to be a lot of blogs changing recently. I think I was just lucky that mine fell at the same time as those other big blogs as it was just a coincidence. I knew that my blog needed to be changed and this is the first chance I’d gotten around to it.
Design is Important but Copy Rules
One of the 21 Lazy Rules I might have added (I can’t remember if I did or not) was about design. If you’re selling a marketing product to clients that they use to attract new client (ie: brochures or websites), the design is mainly used to sell your client and not the end-client. In the end, what’s going to sell the product for your client is the copy, and not the design. Why do you think long-form sales letters (and websites) are still used, even if they are so ugly?
Jon Waraas, the Judge of the Blog Design Content
That was just a quick “tip” within a post mainly about the Lazy Owner. Since Jon was nice enough to put the Lazy Owner at #2 on his list, I think this is a good opportunity to recommend his blog. I’d mentioned him in the past on a post about no publicity is bad publicity.
Jon is (from what I’ve seen through his blog) quite successful at making a living online. There are a lot of “successful” online entrepreneurs with blogs out there but what I like from what I’ve seen about seen about his ventures is that he works on building businesses and not just making money through something that will last just weeks. He created a service to post blog comments and what I liked was that it was a real business model, and not just a small hole in the market to exploit for a period of time. In his model, he essentially arbitraged less expensive labor and sold it for a higher price.
